A World of Travel
I am told that you are either born with a “traveling gene” or you are not. Obviously, Doug and I have that gene, because traveling is truly in our blood! It is technically called the Wanderlust Gene and explains why some people are born to travel. Whether you call it wanderlust, a love of travel or regular old curiosity, the fact remains the same: your hunger to explore simply cannot be quenched, no matter how many vacations or journeys you take.
According to one psychology blog, the inherent urge to travel can be traced back to one gene, a genetic derivative of the gene DRD4, that is associated with the dopamine levels in the brain. I think DNA testing should be done on couples because I can’t imagine anything worse than having one person have the wanderlust gene and the other one never wanting to travel at all! Talk about being incompatible!
Being born on a remote ranch in northern Nevada, I certainly had little opportunity to travel while growing up. But my parents did put me on a plane when I was 12 years old to fly to Alaska to live with my sister and her husband who was in the Army. I had to make three plane changes and loved every minute of it. Doug, on the other hand, knew he wanted to travel from an early age—his favorite book being Around The World in 80 Days! Fifty-three years ago when we got married, we certainly had no idea our love of travel would direct our lives the way it has, but we wouldn't change a minute of it.
It still surprises me how often we are able to answer “yes, we have been there,” or “yes, we have been on that cruise line or ship.” We believe that personal knowledge is what keeps our clients coming back again and again. So while it can be an exhausting job, we continue to travel as much as possible in order to offer our clients the expertise needed to make their vacations as perfect as possible!
I thought it might be helpful to some of our newer clients if I listed the cruise lines we have been on—some numerous times. This article does not allow me the space to list all of the ships, but trust me, it is a lot!
AmaWaterways; Azamara Club Cruises; Celebrity Cruises; Crystal Cruises; Cunard Line; Disney Cruise Line; Holland America Line; Norwegian Cruise Line; Oceania Cruises; Paul Gauguin Cruises; Princess Cruises; Regent Seven Seas Cruises; Royal Caribbean International; Seabourn; Silversea Cruises; UnCruise Adventures; Uniworld Boutique River Cruise Collection; Viking Cruises (both ocean and river); Windstar Cruises.
The one point I want to make is that one cruise line does not fit all—but there is a cruise line for everyone. It is just a matter of talking and finding out your preferences.
Do you like to be active and not miss anything? Or are you happy to relax and just chill out? This is where we come in. We can find the best cruise line to fit your idea of a perfect vacation. And, as in the case of Doug and I, he is much more adventuresome than I am, so we have found cruise lines where he can be out and about and I can relax and read!
There is also the matter of destinations—some cruise lines are much better suited for one itinerary than another. And, within a cruise line, there are ships we highly recommend and others not so much! The point is—USE US—we have 24 years of selling travel and 35 years of cruising experience!
